Customer Service

On Oct. 1, 2003, Colorado Springs Utilities introduced new administrative fees to its rates. The fees include field collection (trip) and after hours reconnect charges. The fees are intended to offset the administrative expenses, resources and travel time necessary to manage and collect on delinquent accounts - expenses that could otherwise impact customer rates.

All new fees will appear on the front of the utility bill under the Adjustments/Fees section. The specific adjustment/fee will be indicated as either a Trip Charge or After Hours Reconnect Charge on the back.

Trip Fees

  • Both residential and commercial customers are subject to a trip charge for field collection visits made on delinquent accounts.
  • The Trip Charge is $20 and will appear on the customer’s utility bill.
  • Regardless of the number of utility services (electric, gas, water and wastewater), the customer will be assessed only one $20 trip fee per visit.
  • When a customer has multiple accounts requiring collection at the same location, on the same day, only one trip charge of $20 will be assessed.

After Hours Reconnect Fees

  • For the purpose of the after hours reconnection charge, normal hours of operation is defined as Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Both residential and commercial customers are subject to the after hours reconnection charge if a reconnect is requested outside normal hours of operation.
  • The charge for after hours service connection is $40.
  • Regardless of the number of utility services (electric, gas, water and wastewater) being reconnected, the customer will be assessed only one $30 (normal business hours) or $40 (after hours) reconnect fee per visit.
