| Cutting costs, eliminating positions We know that many here in the Pikes Peak region are struggling to make ends meet. With a downturn in the economy, credit uncertainty and rising energy costs, we are all affected. As you face tough decisions with your household budget, we want you to know that we're doing our par to cut costs and keep your utility bill as low as possible. - Reducing our workforce, cutting capital costs - Using a planned, responsible approach, we began reducing staff positions and capital expenses two years ago. So far, 92 positions have been cut and a total of 200 positions are planned for elimination. We've targeted a 20 percent ($320 million) reduction in planned capital projects over five years.
- Budget cuts across the organization - We have reduced expenses by $53.3 million this year. Cuts have been made in vehicle, equipment and facilities expenses, employee training, travel and education, customer service center hours, community investments, conservation communication, funding for contractors, office expenses, and several major construction projects.
